on the care of seniors
Duckett further accused the government of funding hospitals at the expense of care facilities for seniors. He said while other provinces were boosting funding for non-acute facilities, Alberta had reduced per-capita spending on long-term-care or assisted living facilities in the last decade.

An apologia
" When asked how many acute care beds Calgary will need in five years, Duckett was quick to set straight such thinking: "You should start by saying: What is the best way of meeting people's needs?" he said. "If I were asked where I think the under-investment is most acute, it's actually in the community services.""

Rise and fall of Dr Duckett
"Quite frankly, since he's come to Alberta, he hasn't consulted widely with the key folks here. That's been one of his downfalls," says University of Calgary health policy expert Dr. Tom Noseworthy. While most people with Duckett's job might have consolidated their positions with alliances and advisers, Noseworthy says the CEO never learned the lay of the land in Alberta.
"He never surrounded himself with the kitchen cabinet of informal advisers with nothing to gain," Noseworthy says. "When he leaned back, there was nothing there."

more theatre
Mr Fred Horne ( co-chair of the provincial advisory committee on healht following today's report release) talking about 'public engagement' right now on the wireless and also how the government sets out the plan for health and not Alberta Health Services. Earnest stuff. I thought I heard him say 'standardizing best practice' , good luck with that.
